Zoe Leonard’s practice involves a type of cerebral roaming combined with carefully considered observation. For more than 20 years she has criss-crossed nature and culture, cityscapes and museums, always searching for signs that say something about structures, about natural and cultural conditions and the contradictions, parallels and connections among them. Leonard's photographs – of anatomical wax figures, fashion shows, trees and fences – present figures in sparse black-and-white images that open up a visual field of thought and reveal within it our visible world, that is, the concrete and established structures that make up our reality.

A partir du 18 mai prochain seront rendus visibles au public les 12 000 mètres carré de la prison Saint-Anne, construite à Avignon à la fin du XVIIIème siècle et désaffectée depuis 2003. Saint-Anne avait fait l'objet de nombreux débats politiques quant à son sort futur. Récemment, elle a été choisie pour recevoir les œuvres de la Collection Lambert, du nom de son fondateur Yvon Lambert, en attendant la fin des travaux dans le musée qui les accueille en temps normal.

The solo exhibition SVEN JOHNE: REPORTS FROM THE CRACK OF DAWN brings together several of the artist's most important series of works from the past seven years and offers an opportunity to comprehensively explore the conceptual exactitude of his artistic methodology.
Sven Johne (born 1976 on Rügen) pursues a conceptual approach to documentary photography. Like an investigative reporter he explores various social phenomena, researches background information, visits the places relevant to his story, and embarks on a documentation of these sites. The result is photos, texts, videos, and archives, which raise questions in terms of their authenticity. For more than twenty years, the American artist Zoe Leonard (born in 1961, in Liberty, New York) has been practicing the art of the contemplative journey and the perceptive gaze. She trawls through nature and culture, through the (urban) landscape and the world of museums, in search of signs that might give some insight into their contrasts, similarities and inter-relationships. In her photographs, as we look down at the Niagara Falls, we see the rushing waters pour into a massive cleft in the earth's crust; we see railway tracks sweeping across the globe; we see the patterns of modern urban existence, work and life pressed into right angles and tubes.
