Rencontre avec Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs autour de leur livre The Great Unreal
The Great Unreal is a photography book by the swiss artists Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs, published by editor Patrick Frey in 2009. Both the photographs, the sequence and layout make it a very unusual book, that first seem to tell with pictures a road trip around North America, but leads you far from what you expect.
Numerous American and foreign photographers went across the country before Onorato and Krebs, taking pictures of its landscapes and people. Evans, Frank, Eggleston, Sternfeld, Shore… they shaped the way we see America, with its rich and powerful imagery. The Great Unreal is at the same time another point of view and an attempt to question these representations.

La série « Building Berlin / Constructions » a été réalisée à la chambre 8x10 dans des terrains vagues de Berlin entre 2009 et 2012.
Les images en petits formats sont extraites de « Blockbuster », un film de 5mn tourné en 16mm avec l’aide de Berbank-Green à la Caméra et la participation de Patrick Holderness.

Le 5ème numéro de Tell Mum Everything Is Ok commence par un aveu de Frédéric Pierre et Camille Françoise (les initiales de FP & CF); après cinq numéros, des circuits et des habitudes se sont créées. Difficile aujourd'hui de se tenir à la règle des débuts ; travailler sur la base de libre propositions.
La petite revue connait effectivement le succès ; après un appel à candidatures sur Flickr qui réunit près de 2000 photos, le premier numéro (septembre 2009) est tiré à 150 exemplaires, et se retrouve épuisé en 5 jours. Le cinquième et dernier numéro, sur le thème Stigmate, est aujourd'hui tiré à 1000 exemplaires... - Exposition

"We live our lives in the belief that the world is growing ever smaller. We eat vegetables from New Zealand, communicate in real time with people in Buenos Aires and Capetown, fly to New York for the weekend, and print books in China. We no longer have a feeling for real distances anymore. Our western world is plugged in 24 hours a day. Looking out of a jumbo jet, we see mountains and steppes, fields and villages passing by, 11 kilometers below us. Families live in each little building, and vehicles full of people move along the streets. Each of these people lives an individual life; each has a certain view of the landscape and a history. Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs « Adding, Adding, Adding » at the Foam
In 2013, the annual Foam Paul Huf Award was awarded to the Swiss duo Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs (b. 1979). The international jury was deeply impressed: "As true illusionists intent on pushing against the boundaries of the medium, Onorato & Krebs skillfully engage their audiences and convey some of the magic that lies at the core of photographic image-making." Foam is proud to present Adding, Adding, Adding including brand new work by this duo, as part of the award.
Onorato & Krebs have been working together on a variety of projects on the cutting edge of photography, sculpture and installation since 2003. Few subjects remain untouched in their complex, yet highly accessible work, in which reality collides with fiction while humour converges with seriousness.

Le Bal présente jusqu'en août « Ready (to be) Made ». Une exposition qui regroupe les œuvres de Bas Jan Ader, et des photographes suisses Taiyo Onorato et Nico Krebs, qui « mêle romantisme et performances conceptuelles, » précise Diane Dufour, directrice et cofondatrice du Bal. Les trois artistes provoquent « l'accidentellement vrai » avancé par l'artiste hollandais, et mettent en avant le concept du « readymade ».

12ème Journées Photographiques de Bienne
En septembre 2008, les Journées photographiques de Bienne se consacrent à la photographie mise en scène, un genre en pleine effervescence qui s'intéresse à l'aspect construit de la représentation, et offre des images au caractère narratif, théâtral ou artificiel. Cette 12e édition présente une vingtaine d'expositions en ville de Bienne, de la gare à la vieille ville en passant par le quartier des musées, et rassemble des oeuvres de 19 photographes et d'une école.

Numerous American and foreign photographers went across the country before Onorato and Krebs, taking pictures of its landscapes and people.
