Exhibition: 19th Century Architectural Views From the Collection of Jay McDonald
New York – Nineteenth-century photographs from the collection of Jay McDonald will be on view at Hans P. Kraus Jr. Fine Photographs in the first part of a two-part exhibition from June 30 through July 31, 2015. The exhibition presents architectural views by some of the early masters including Édouard Baldus, Charles Marville, Charles Nègre, Roger Fenton, Gustave Le Gray, and Captain Linnaeus Tripe, among others. The majority of the work on view was made during the 1850s. Part II of the exhibition focusing on early landscape photography from the MacDonald collection will be exhibited at the gallery September 14 through November 20.

Exhibition : « Conflict, Time, Photography » at the Museum Folkwang
"Conflict, Time, Photography" presents the many facets of the artistic portrayal of armed conflicts using the medium of photography. Artists such as Don McCullin, Pierre-Antony-Thouret, Simon Norfolk, Stephen Shore, Michael Schmidt and Taryn Simon have depicted acts of war and their legacy, in photographs taken in the mo-ment of the action, as well as days, months, years, and even decades after the event. This major group exhibition has no intention of serving as a ‘history of war photography’, however. It instead explores the various possibilities and strategies that artists and photographers have adopted to try to come to terms with violent conflict, in the hope of overcoming it. Exposition : Photography of The Victorian Age
The exhibition “Photography of the Victorian Age” comprises the art pieces from the ROSPHOTO’s collection and the collection “Pre-Raphaelitism in Photography”, which has been donated by the British Council to the Tomsk Regional Art Museum.
The exhibition spans 1850–1870s and is dedicated to the important period in the history of the British photography as well as in the history of the British art in general. That period has been named the “Victorian Age” and is characterized by the growing interest of the photographers to the classic art and by the photography’s aspiration to join the circle of fine arts. As a result, a certain school of art photography was established, the school that searched for the combination of real and artificial subjects.

"Dispatch" : war photographs in print, 1854-2008
By comparing original prints with their reproductions in magazines and newspapers, DISPATCH reveals that taking a shot is only one step in the process of illustrating a war. Picture editors and art directors have always selected, trimmed, ordered and sequenced war photographs to suit their particular needs. This exhibition views these photographs not as windows open to the world, but as representations that are the product of changing editorial figures, aesthetic priorities and historical contexts. From Roger Fenton’s collodion plate photographs taken during the Crimean War (1853–1856) to Luc Delahaye’s images of the recent conflicts in Afghanistan (2001–present), the photographic representation of war has evolved dramatically in the Western press over the past 150 years... - Exposition

Cette exposition nous invite à le comprendre. Elle montre en quoi les artistes ont contribué au mouvement de désenchantement face à la guerre, qui s’amorce au début du 19e siècle, lors des campagnes napoléoniennes.
Depuis toujours placée au centre des valeurs de la société, la guerre comme épisode inévitable allait de moins en moins faire consensus. Après les campagnes napoléoniennes, en 1819, Benjamin Constant pouvait écrire : « Chez les modernes, une guerre heureuse coûte infailliblement plus qu’elle ne rapporte ».

THE ART SHOW : The Horizon in 19th Century Photographs
Hans P. Kraus Jr. Fine Photographs will present an exhibition of 19th century photographs, featuring views of horizons around the world, at The Art Show presented by the Art Dealers Association of America on March 3-7, 2010, at the Park Avenue Armory. The Horizon in 19th Century Photographs will include work by Eugène Cuvelier, Roger Fenton, Gustave Le Gray, Humphrey Lloyd Hime, William Henry Fox Talbot and Félix Teynard.
The limits of the earth’s resources are increasingly apparent. Our earliest photographs of natural beauty and man-made monuments suggest that a lasting legacy of these works is not solely aesthetic, but also a prescient reminder of how the medium of photography was instrumental in establishing an environmental awareness among its earliest audiences.
