«Acteur de la scène de l’art contemporain à Bangkok, Manit Sriwanichpoom se définit lui-même comme un activiste qui utilise la photographie dans la mesure où elle lui permet de mettre rapidement en forme ses points de vue, ses protestations, ses urgences. Il est absolument réactif, immédiat. Il a ainsi réalisé une remarquable série de mises en scène, en noir et blanc, encadrées dans de lourdes dorures, parodiant des icônes du photojournalisme, dans lesquelles des victimes du napalm ou des réfugiés fuyaient en transportant des emballages des grandes marques de luxe internationales. C’était sa réponse au krach financier en Asie du Sud-Est à la fin des années quatre-vingt. Il a inventé un personnage, « Mister Pink », vêtu d’un costume en soie rose intense, accompagné d’un caddie et d’un téléphone portable de même couleur qui lui sert à révéler et dénoncer les travers consuméristes de notre société.»
