Lorenzo Vitturi was born in Venice in 1980. A student of the Fabrica, Centre for Research on Coomuication owned by the Benetton Group, in the Photography Department directed by Enrico Bossan, he created the "Auteur benches for looks of love", "The fetishism of vision. Photos on Peter Greenaway's set", and also exhibited his work in the recent collective exhibition entitled "Pasolini and Rome".

In the early days of photography, exposure times were very long, making static objects the ideal subject matter for the pioneers of the medium. However, as the technology developed, the fascination for capturing the still life has remained. While a still life can look deceptively simple, it is one of the most difficult types of art for a photographer to achieve. It requires a keen sense of lighting, as well as great compositional skills. The true test of a great artist thus lies in the creation of a still life.

These photographs created specifically for this Festival document an almost unknown chapter of recent Italian history. During the years of the Cold War, the Italian State decided to strengthen its North-Eastern defence line with funds provided by NATO. This resulted in an ex novo organised system of permanent fortifications to stop any eventual attack by countries belonging to the Warsaw pact.
In addition to building defensive structures, in 1975 twenty-five new infantry battalions were created and assumed responsibility for managing and defending these fortifications until 1996.
With the fall of the Soviet Union both the fortifications and the battalions guarding them were progressively dismantled.
