Adams (b. 1982, Cape Town) graduated in 2009 with a Diploma in Fine Art from the Ruth Prowse School of Art, Cape Town. His first solo show, Vinyl , was held at the AVA Gallery in 2010, followed by In Between at Stevenson Gallery (2011), If that I knew at the Rongwrong Gallery in Amsterdam, and Have you seen Him? at blank projects (2013). In 2012 Wanted Magazine selected Adams as one of its 12 Young African Artists, and in 2013 he was awarded the IAAB/Pro-Helvetia residency in Basel, Switzerland. Adams has most recently attended the 2014 edition of Sommerakademie im Zentrum Paul Klee, in Bern, Switzerland. Adams lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa.
Fortunes Remixed is an exhibition that considers contextual ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’ as experienced by young South Africans in relation to their elders. This exhibition looks at South Africa’s journey, how artists have related to it and what their position is on South African identity and our future.
The exhibition will include a selection of established and emerging South African artists. Works by David Koloane, Penny Siopis, Pat Mautloa, Lerato Shadi, Jarrett Erasmus, Jo Voysey, Michelle Manoreng, Jessica Foli, Zyma Amin and Pebofatso Mokoena will be part of the exhibition. This is touring exhibition and will be presented in Cape Town, P.E. and Johannesburg over the next four months.
