Fiona Tan attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academie as well as the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. She currently lives and works in the Netherlands. Over the last ten years her works have attracted great international attention. Her last exhibition, "Mirror Maker", which was shown in a number of European countries in 2006 and 2007, was nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2007. In addition she has had solo exhibitions at the De Pont Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst in Tilburg, at Villa Arson in Nice, and at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Tan was also recently represented at the Sujeto in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Castilla y León in 2005, at the International Biennial Istanbul 2003, at the ICP Triennial in New York, at the Documenta XI in Kassel, at the 49th Biennial in Venice, and at the Berlin Biennial 2001.

L'exposition d'été du MAC's Je suis seul, avec vous réunit une quinzaine d'artistes contemporains dont les oeuvres, principalement vidéos et photos, s'attachent pour la plupart à représenter des ensembles sociaux donnés : couples, familles, amis, communautés, ethnies, réseaux, forums, etc. Autant de portraits de groupes ou de groupes de portraits (au total quelque 1000 images !) dont les auteurs, parfois simples compilateurs d'archives anonymes (Jonathan Monk, Fiona Tan, Claes & Rochette), sont à la fois proches et lointains, à l'instar des gens qui y sont représentés, eux aussi, seuls et ensemble.

Fiona Tan: Rise and Fall provides the first opportunity for North American audiences to view an important body of the Amsterdam-based video artist’s recent work. The exhibition includes six of Tan’s newest videos, as well as a selection of related drawings and photographs completed over the past four years. To accompany the exhibition, Tan has created an artist edition of 50 photographic colour prints. Titled Rapids, these prints are available for sale at the Gallery, with proceeds benefiting operations and programming.

Amsterdam-based photographer and video artist Fiona Tan (born 1966) has been a central figure on the contemporary art scene since the 1990s. In her video News from the Near Future (2003) a collage of historic film and audio material tells of man's ambivalent relationship with water as a force of nature. Drawing on the archives of the Amsterdam Film Museum, Tan composed a narrative crescendo starting off with idyllic impressions of the watery world and building to increasingly menacing scenarios of an unleashed nature. Images of floods and churning seas, of wild winds and storms, parade before our eyes the destructive force of water. Fiona Tan (b. 1966) is interested in the cultural role of the camera, whether film or still, and how its images trigger our imagination. Images of people almost always play a central role in her photographs, films and audio-video installations, and she places great emphasis on how images "affect and inform the internal picture we have of ourselves, of others and of the world around us."

The cooperation between the Pinakothek der Moderne and Siemens Arts Program, which began when the Siemens Photography Collection was entrusted to the museum in 2003, is now continuing in the exhibition "Fiona Tan | 80 days". The exhibition grants the opportunity to take a long look at the recent photo, film, and video art produced by Fiona Tan, an artist who lives in Amsterdam.
