In 1995 "Batman forever"came out in the U.S. and this year - much longed for - "The dark Knight". In Cologne 2008 we say "Batman is still alive" at VAN HAM. One of the top lots of this year's autumn sale is the large-format Batman photograph by Daniel and Geo Fuchs from their series "Toygiants", accurately named like the book, which was published in 2007. This sought-after work from 2005 is estimated 20.000 to 24.000 € (Lot 1142).
Also in the focus of this year's autumn sale are works by Bernd and Hilla Becher. The portfolio "Industriebauten" comprises 14 original gelatin silver prints from the years 1961 to 1973. The edition of originally projected 50 portfolios was published in 1975 by the Schirmer/Mosel Verlag and sold in an edition of 30. This portfolio, never called in an international sale in complete form before, provides an exemplary cross-section of the early œuvre of Bernd and Hilla Becher and is estimated € 40.000-50.000 (Lot 1054). Spectacular is also the large-format vintage print titled "Getreidesilo, Canton, Ohio, USA" made by the Düsseldorf photographer couple in 1977 (Lot 1055, estimate: € 15.000).
Amongst the American photograph works are two impressive works by Diane Arbus: "Transvestite at a Drag Ball, N. Y. As a bibliophilic rarity the variant of his book "Die Welt ist schön" from 1928, comprising only 72 plates, is on offer (Lot 1016, estimate: € 4.000). A photograph by Hugo Erfurth portrays Renger-Patzsch on the other side of the camera (Lot 1122, estimate: € 3.600).
