Chaired by John Sweeney, with photographers Jocelyn Bain Hogg, Adam Patterson and Robin Maddock
A bloody spate of stabbings in the UK capital over the last year left more than 20 teenagers dead and provoked a belated interest in the activities and mores of London’s youth.
HOST brings together a group of photographers who have tried to engage in different ways with youth and crime issues over time, hoping to look at the causes behind the headlines. ‘Shooting Kids’ will be chaired by award-winning journalist John Sweeney , and by way of an examination of the photographs by Adam Patterson , Jocelyn Bain Hogg and Robin Maddock , will aim to shed some light on the issues and how they are represented in the mainstream media.
Adam Patterson will present his ongoing work Another Lost Child, recently published in 8 magazine, which focuses on a former south London gang member Vipoh. Jocelyn Bain Hogg ’s ongoing project British Youth weaves in and out of the social lives of young people (as featured on Sky News). He also documented British gangsters in his project The Firm , an insight into organised crime. Robin Maddock has just published Our Kids Are Going to Hell , which takes a look at youth crime from the perspective of the police.
John Sweeney is an award-winning journalist and author, best-known for his investigative reporting on the BBC’s Panorama .
